The Adventure of Bucc an Eers

Two young rabbits met one day while all of the Eastern rabbit colony were together, they were both being picked on by the other young rabbits because of the way they looked. Bandit had larger than normal front teeth and Earnie had very large ears even for a rabbit. 

They were given nicknames by the other rabbits of Buck and Ears, which they didn’t really like being called. 

One day Bandits father sat the two young rabbits down and said to them, now you two have met and become friends take a strength from each other, learn not to just shy away from others calling you names, embrace your individual looks and believe you can achieve anything you want too. 

Bandit met Earnie early the next morning, and he said.

I have been thinking about what father said to us yesterday and I think we do as he suggested, let’s embrace our nicknames and make them our own. Earnie liked the sound of this, I have an idea said Bandit let’s change the way our nicknames are spelt to make them our own. 

The two young rabbits sat together in the beautiful sunlight overlooking the field and burrows of the colony, thinking, thinking, thinking. 

Suddenly Bandit jumped up, I’ve got it. I’m going to spell Buck like this - Be you see see (Bucc), Earnie can I suggest you spell Ears like this - Ee ee are ess (Eers), when we put them together it looks like

Bucc and Eers, that’s something everyone will get to know us as, the Buccaneers, what do you think?  I love it said Earnie. 

 The two hopped over to Bandits father with the exciting news; Father, Father shouter Bandit, thank you for talking to us yesterday we listened and now want to be known as Bucc and Eers, the Buccaneers, the two young rabbits were so excited. 

From that day on the two young rabbits were inseparable and throughout the colony whenever they were seen it would be said, here comes the young Bucc an Eers!

One day Bucc said to Eers, as they liked to now be known by, I think we should explore more than just our own colony, there must be lots to see and things we’ve never imagined experiencing, Eers was hopping on the stop, excited about the idea. 

The two young rabbits were excited for their first adventure together, bright and early the next day they were up and off to explore, they got to the edge of the colony where old Mr Big lived, he was the oldest rabbit in the colony, as they hopped past Mr Big (they weren’t sure if that was his name but that’s what they’d always called him), they waved, Mr Big called out ‘have fun boys’ 

Eers stopped, Bucc are we sure we want to do this? Of course we do Eers, think of the stories we’ll be able to share with our children. Off the two hopped, the start of a great adventure.
